a few new heels

hello there!

i hope everyone is having a lovely holiday season! the holidays always seems to sneak up on me and then before i know it, they have come and gone!

my favorite post-holiday perks are the great deals. because i live in a cold climate and tend to layer up, i prefer to shop winter clearance as opposed to summer. and some of the best deals right now seem to be on shoes!

i can go months without buying shoes, and then all of a sudden (like this weekend) i end up with a few new pairs right in a row. (does anyone else do this??)

so of course, i had to share my newest closet arrivals with you.

up first, for christmas i received "jasper" from vince camuto. yay! thanks mom! you know i have been putting these in polyvore sets for months :)

went with a 6.5, runs true to size.

then, i did a little gift card shopping and picked up a pair of fur booties "sookie" from style&co at macy's.
went with a 7 in these, true to size for boots for me.

and lastly, ann taylor shocked me with these pretties. the in-store price was much lower and at 50% off that - it was a steal:
also went with the 6.5, true to size

can't wait to wake up my winter outfits with these new shoes.
what deals are you scoping out this season? do you prefer to shop summer clearance or winter?

happy hunting!

because i needed a new clutch...

hello lovelies! did you see what popped up on the anthropologie website this morning?
polka rounds clutch

oh so pretty. so i got right to work on what it would pair with. everything of course :)  it looks like it might be related to the bag that roxy gave a sneak preview to here.

what to wear with a polka dot clutch, option #1

loving it with the fluttering obi dress. but it also works with a simple pencil skirt and tee:

and lastly, it goes back to jeans perfectly. i like the contrast of navy gingham with the dots.

this one might not make it to sale. and like i said... i needed a new clutch. have a happy monday!

late august anthro picks

hello there! i just wanted to quickly pop in to share my new favorites from anthropologie. as j.crew stole my heart with their collection of brightly colored pencil skirts and cafe capris, it leaves anthropologie to make it up in tops and shoes.

j.crew boho embroidered top styling options

hello there! a few weeks ago i tried on the j.crew boho embroidered top and just loved it. i ended up taking a size 4. this would be the same size i took in the loosened shelby blouse (both ran a bit big). it's currently sitting on the top of my non-anthro wishlist, but i am waiting for a sale to pull the trigger. (hopefully i can make it!)

bar chic has the top in her 30x30 and asked to see how i would style it. what a fun exercise:

(click the arrow to the right to see more, and then just click on the set to view larger and find out product information.)

i was surprised at how well this one could work for day and play. which ones are your favorites? how would you style it?

pin love

remember this j.crew picture from this fall?
i thought it was fitting for my recent finds. i am finally able to share a picture!

i love them all clustered together like that and can't wait to wear them on my suit jackets for a fresh update to my usual flower brooch. (but don't worry, i don't plan on looking like the inspirational/editorial photo anytime soon.)

6.20.11 update! it looks like the pin's made it to j.crew's website...

j.crew finds

after a bit of a lackluster beginning assortment, i happened upon some finds at j.crew on wednesday night.

i love how the madras popover fit, same with the perfect shirt in the neon orange. i wish they had more colors. i also liked the deep lavender color of the sweater. i kinda like the combo of the orange and purple. i might have to try that soon. :)

still, there are a few more items that made it to my j.crew wishlist but haven't arrived in stores yet. i just wish there was 20% off and free shipping to help me pull the trigger.

anything on your wishlist from j.crew?

tackling the trench coat

i love outerwear. let's face it. if you live anywhere that has temperature swings, for 3/4 of the year outerwear is part of your outfit. it's what you are seen in at the grocery store or out and about running errands. so you might as well have something that looks cute, flatters your figure, and compliments your outfit.

that being said, outerwear is something i expect to spend more money on. i tried to feature trenches that are more affordable than less afforable (around the $100-$200 mark, sorry beautiful burberry!) as well as more "classic" pieces. because you are spending more on it, a trench coat should be something that should last awhile and not be too trendy (again, timeless pieces = investment pieces). ready? let's go!
first up, a navy smudged spot printed trench coat in an hour-glass flattering shape from topshop:

this one would add that feminine touch with casual outfits, but then also work for dressing up.

next up is the cassie trench from guess. talk about perfect details. the shape is just amazing. i love the front cascade, and the back hood is perfect for those really rainy days. (and check out those amazing buttons on the sleeve!)

then, i headed to asos and found multiple options. love this website! how about this 60s trench in vibrant orange?
if the orange isnt for you, how about a similar shape in classic tan? i love the little buttons on this one from a wear.
i have also had good luck with outerwear from juicy couture. i know, i know. the first thing i think when i hear juicy is sweatsuits with rhinestones, not exactly my style. BUT, i have been thoroughly impressed with their clothing. this floral jaquard jacket is so beautiful. excellent fabric and details.
another feminine black trench is the eyelet trim trench from betsey johnson:

this fairgrounds memory coat from tulle, available at modcloth, is quite charming:

this last long-sleeve coat is also by tulle and absolutely swoon worthy! perfect color! adorable bow!
and as an added bonus, tulle will donate 50% of your total purchase to the japan quake and tsunami relief fund. (plus, enter surprise5 for 5% off your total purchase.)

until next time,
S
p.s. i was hoping to feature some anthropologie or leifsdottir trenches, as honestly, i own quite a few from these stores that are great quality and wonderful styles - but this season seems lacking. :( hopefully fall brings some better options!
